Santorini Discovery, Akrotiri Ruins And Beach

Offer Image
Discover this beautiful island, experience its volcanic beach, explore the Akrotiri ruins and then relax in the village of Oia.

Enjoy a day of discovery on Santorini's island! Start with the breathtaking views at the Prophet Elias Monastery, located in the village of Pyrgos, is one of the oldest monasteries of the islands. It holds an impressive bell tower and four other churches and chapels surround it.

From there, you will work your way down to the hidden gem of Pyrgos village, where you will admire the traditional architecture, remains of neo-classical mansions, narrow winding paths leading up the hillside, small white houses, galleries, vineyards, churches and breathtaking sunsets. This place is truly magical.

Continue your journey to the Akrotiri Archaeological ruins. The Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri was one of the most important Minoan urban ports in the Aegean Sea when it was covered by volcanic ash in the 17th century BC, allowing exceptional preservation of the settlement, making this one of the most significant archaeological sites in Greece.

After enjoying some historical facts, you will have free time at the Red Beach, arguably the most famous beach in the southernmost part of Santorini. Here, you can enjoy the scenery of colorfully formed mountain, the black and red pulverized volcanic rock sand and clear waters. From there, visit Akrotiri Bay for coffee or lunch with Greek traditional mezedes and ouzo (not included in the price).

Fira, the capital of the island, comes next on the list. In Fira, you will have the opportunity to stroll around and take magnificent pictures of the Caldera, shop or enjoy traditional Santorinian cuisine and take in contrast between prehistoric landscapes and modern style architecture.

As you take in the last bits of this phenomenal place, you will head over to Oia, a scenic village on the northwest edge of the Santorini island, to experience one of the most beautiful natural phenomena, when the white houses and the caldera catch all the colors of the setting sun for a few seconds.

Please Note: The Akrotiri excavation site entrance fee is not included (12 EUR) and can be paid directly at the site on the day of the tour.
